We take the difference between today's pump price and your comparison price, divide it by your MPG, and spread it across the miles you actually get paid for. Empty miles don't earn anything, so the loaded miles carry them.

What's a fuel surcharge in NEMT?
A per-trip or per-mile amount that covers fuel above a set base price. It rises and falls with the market. It's most common on private-pay and facility rates, where the provider sets the price.
Where do the prices come from?
The U.S. Energy Information Administration's weekly retail prices, including taxes. We use the regional average where EIA doesn't publish a state price.
What MPG should I use?
Your fuel card data if you have it. As a rough guide: minivans about 20, high-roof and wheelchair vans 12 to 15.
Why does the no-show number look so big?
It includes the revenue from a ride you could have run in that slot, not just the fuel. Treat it as the upper end.
